Essex Blogger Interviews : Squibb Vicious

Next up in the Essex Bloggers series is Haydn from Squibb Vicious!

Haydn

Tell us about yourself!

Hey! I’m Haydn and I waffle a lot on SquibbVicious.com. I’m from Upminster, the very end of the district line! I’m 23 years old, although I’d love to be about 15 still! I work full time for Quintessentially running their Social Media and website, so I’m a bit of a geek on the quiet! If I asked my co-workers to describe me they’d probably say loud, bubbly, and full of crazy catchphrases!

What is “Squibb Vicious”?

I’m a lifestyle blog, and chat about the amazing places I get to visit. The places I get to go to are a mixture of what I fancy and where my job sends me, I’m rather lucky with where I’ve been sent so far! It’s been running a year now, and I’m shocked it’s lasted this long! I didn’t think people would want to read about my life!! The name is a play on words, Squibb being my surname and the Vicious being stolen from Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols who I love! An old work colleague came up with one day and it stuck!

Where can we find you?

SquibbVicious.com, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Why do you blog, and what are your favourite (and least favourite) parts of blogging?

I blog as I get to do so much with my job and it’s nice to give insights to people about great places to go and see! I get to travel, stay in amazing hotels and eat fantastic foods so I like to chat about it! I also really hope people try out the places I talk about it; I’ve found some of my favourites through work!! My favourite part is when other bloggers comment on my posts, it’s always nice to know people are taking time out of their day to read and leave you a little something! My least favourite part about blogging is when I don’t get time to blog and get a list of what I need to catch up on, I worry I will forget bits!

Other than blogging, how do you like to spend your time?

I have a delightful boyfriend known as my partner in crime online and we spend a lot of time out walking, spending time with my crazy puppies, and of course my family! We’re a rather mad bunch so it’s great when we all get together! I enjoy photography and going to exhibitions too!

Is there any advice you’d give to new bloggers?

I’d say, it’s hard work to get going and raise awareness of your blog, but the hard work pays off and you can meet some great people through it!

What are three blogs (Essex or otherwise!) that you love?

A recent new love of mine is milkbubbletea.blogspot.co.uk that I actually found on your site in another Essex Blogger interview!
Milkteef is another love of mine, she’s an Essex girlie too and is doing incredible with her blog!
Lastly I really like Is That You Darling?, the lovely Jane!

Essex Blogger Interviews : Adventures With Words

The next blogger featured in the Essex Bloggers series is Rob from Adventures with Words

Tell us about yourself!

I’m Rob, 30 and I live in Colchester, Essex.

What is “Adventures with Words”?

I blog at adventureswithwords.com and it’s a mixture of books, films, television and comics with a weekly podcast as well! I’ve no idea where the name came from other than that it just popped fully formed into my head! Originally it began as a blog only about books, in particular the ones that I was reading at the time, but quickly expanded to cover much more and it became a reflection of my interests. I’ve been blogging fairly sporadically but it’s been over two years now in a number of different incarnations. I was delighted when Kate joined me to not only blog about her reading habits, which can differ to my own, but to also start a weekly podcast that will soon celebrate its own year anniversary. Podcasting has its own very different challenges to blogging (from technical to having to think what to say on the spot!) which makes it all the more interesting.

Where can we find you?

AdventuresWithWords.com, Adventures with Words twitter, my twitter, and instagram. The podcast can be found under Adventures With Words in iTunes and I do have a Pinterest account but have found it’s not really for me…

Why do you blog, and what are your favourite (and least favourite) parts of blogging?

I began blogging as a way of keeping a record of what I was reading or watching and also to share my opinion of it. Twitter can sometimes be too easy and too short to share a constructed opinion whereas with a blog you can write as much as you like! The best part is engaging in a conversation with authors and fellow readers while the hardest part is simply finding the time.

Other than blogging, how do you like to spend your time?

I naturally enjoy reading but do try to get my head out of a book! I enjoy eating out, trips to the cinema and always make sure to visit Firstsite when there is a new exhibition on.

Is there any advice you’d give to new bloggers?

Don’t expect to get readers straight away. There are a lot of blogs out there all competing for our attention. It takes time to find not only new readers but also time to find your own writing voice.

What are three blogs (Essex or otherwise!) that you love?

For a local blog, the Colchester Chronicle provides news and a slightly tongue-in-cheek look at my home town.
I always enjoy reading fellow book blogger and podcaster Simon’s blog at Savidge Reads, while for a slightly quirkier look at life I’d recommend the Laughing Squid.

Essex Blogger Interviews : Polly May and the like

My gorgeous (duck face) little sister, Polly May is up next in the Essex blogger interviews!

Polly May

Tell us about yourself!
I’m 22 and studying to become a primary school teacher, however, I do love blogging about anything that is going on in my life.

What is “Polly May and the like”?
I have been writing my blog for about 3 years now, and I absolutely love it! I blog about everything and everything: films, music, theatre, days out, uni, work, school… I don’t really write about one particular thing, so I suppose I am a ‘lifestyle’ blogger?! My blog name was chosen from things in my life – ‘Polly’ is my childhood toys name (she is a pink pig) and ‘May’ is my birthday month.

Where can we find you?
@Polly_May90

Why do you blog, and what are your favourite (and least favourite) parts of blogging?
I love blogging – writing whatever I have been up to and I love finding blogs that are similar to mine and getting ideas. My favourite blogs are on fashion, music, and just general reviews on shows and things like that. It’s always nice to look at what other people though before you go on your own. I don’t think there is anything that I don’t like about blogging.

Other than blogging, how do you like to spend your time?
I have been crazy with university work lately, but when I do have time to myself, I like going to London, seeing new art exhibitions and spending time with friends.

Is there any advice you’d give to new bloggers?
Try to make your blog as varied as you can. Don’t be scared of trying something new or writing something a bit different – you never know, it could be the one post that everyone is looking at!

What are three blogs (Essex or otherwise!) that you love?
I love my sister’s – twoninethree.wordpress.com – because she writes such interesting things and it is rarely about the same things. (Aww, thanks!)
I love Gala Darling – http://galadarling.com/ – purely because she just encourages my love for New York City and how much I want to be there.
Lastly, Kandee Johnson – http://www.kandeej.com/ – she was the real reason that I started blogging. I read hers and thought ‘I might give that a go!’
