The Artist

The Artist is a silent film, shot in black and white, shot in 1.33:1 “Academy ratio”, just as the silent films were.  Set in the late 1920’s, The Artist tells the story of silent movie star, George Valentin (played by a dashing Jean Dujardin), and Hollywood’s newest darling, Peppy Miller (played by the gorgeous Berenice Bejo), in the wake of the ‘Talkies’.

I honestly cannot recommend this highly enough.  If you haven’t seen it yet, get down to a cinema quick!  From what I can work out (and the fact that only one of the four closest cinemas to me was showing it), it’s a limited release film, so you might have to go a bit further afield to find a showing.  It’s nominated for loads of awards, and rightly so, because it’s the best film I have seen for ages.

Here’s the trailer, but don’t take my word for it, go and see it yourself!!
